Child Policy

Did you know - most Cat Cafes do not allow children! The Cat Cafe on Whyte is proud to be a facility where young children in Edmonton can interact with rescue cats, and in order to continue this, we need some help from parents. Here's what we need from you!

In our cat lounge with a capacity of twenty-five (25) peopleeight (8) may be aged 12 or under. Of these eight, five (5) may be aged 7-12 and three (3) may be aged 6 and below. Each child aged 6 or younger must have a one adult per child supervision ratio, and each child between 7 and 12 must have a one adult per two children supervision ratio.

EXAMPLE: a group with a 4-year-old child, an 8-year-old child, and a 9-year-old child requires TWO adult supervisors.

(one for the 4-year-old, one for the 8 and 9-year-olds)

a group with a 3-year-old, a 5-year-old, and a 9-year-old requires THREE adult supervisors.

(one for the 3-year-old, one for the 5-year-old, and one for the 9-year-old)

a group with three 10-year-olds requires TWO adult supervisors.

(one for two of the 10-year-olds, one for the third 10-year-old)

Please see our "Plan Your Visit" tab for more information on reservations, walk-ins, and pricing!

actively supervise your children

Please refrain from completing distracting tasks while in the cat lounge while accompanying children. Proper supervision means that parents/guardians must be actively watching their children and ensuring all interactions with the cats are appropriate.

Our supervision requirements ask for one adult for every TWO children aged 7-12 years, and ONE adult for each child aged 0-6 years. We also ask that kids age 6 and under remain in our lower lounge area to allow the cats to have an area of escape should they become overstimulated.

Help ensure your child can maintain a calm environment

Our team works hard to ensure the cats can enjoy a calm, soothing environment in which to meet new people, and it is also what our customers expect when coming for a visit. Please help us maintain this atmosphere for our rescue cats as well as other customers. If your child is unable to integrate into such an environment, please wait to visit until they can.

set an example

Regardless of whether or not you bring kids with you, little ones tend to watch the adults in the lounge for clues on what is appropriate behaviour! This pressure intensifies while acting as a guardian/chaperone in the cat lounge; your kids will follow your lead! Help us set clear expectations for guests of all ages and please adhere to all Cat Cafe on Whyte rules during your visit. If you have any questions about conduct in the cat lounge, please let us know!

understand that this is our cats' home

These rescue cats have made the Cat Cafe on Whyte their home! This means that their safe space is the very area in which our lovely guests interact with them all day, and we ask all guests to be understanding of that fact through their behaviour. The cats at our cafe love to see everyone and can be very entertaining, however it is important to note that they are playing, running, and relaxing in their home, and deserve the autonomy that comes with that environment.

This is why we have rules that ask guests to refrain from picking up the cats, waking them when they're asleep, or chasing them. We strive to keep our cats as happy and calm as possible, and your conduct while in their home has a major impact!
